April, 2015 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Manila, Philippines

We just arrived (Sunday April 19th) in Manila, Philippines—another one of our former ‘homes’—although after 15 years being away there are a lot of changes as you can imagine.  We are here this coming week for some meetings with colleagues from all over Asia to talk about ‘personnel issues/policies and our in-country orientation program for new members (both areas we are working on for our South Asia Group).

It’s always a challenge to work with things like personnel policies and orientation for new members as part of an international organization and wonder how we are doing in comparison to our colleagues serving in other countries!  That’s the value of these meetings--we can share what’s going well, what’s not going well and things we’ve learned that we can share with each other. We look forward to this time of interaction.

Thanks for your prayers as we adjust to the heat and humidity of the tropics and a major time change.  Pray too that as we make some presentations and listen to others, that this will be a profitable time of sharing and learning from others—there’s always room for improving your skills.

In His service,

Ken and Joyce

Prayer Requests

·         Pray for this upcoming week of meetings here in Manila that we would have a good time of sharing with others and learning from them as well.

·         Pray that the personnel policies that we work on will be helpful and encouraging to our colleagues and not burdensome.

·         Pray for our son, Toby and his wife, Kristin, as they get their house ready to sell.  They will be moving to Florida this summer as Toby starts a new job with his same company.

·         Pray for God’s protection on our home as we travel so often and it sits empty.  (Thank God for good neighbors.)

Praise Items

·         Praise for technology that is allowing the distribution of God’s Word this month in two languages as they were able to set up a Bible App for these language groups—both of these groups have accessibility challenges.

·         We decided to drive to California on our way to the Philippines so we could spend a few days with Toby and Kristin and our two grandchildren, Sam and Charlotte.  We were able to enjoy being with them at their school for “Jog-a-thon” day—a fun day for the kids as well as a fund raiser for the school.

·         We really enjoyed spending Easter weekend in Houston with Luke, Nicki and our three grandchildren

Answers to Prayer:  We asked you to pray and God answered

·         We are grateful that our long international trip to the Philippines went well—no problems along the way and our suitcases arrived safely.

·         Continue to pray for our colleagues who are re-applying for visas—no resolution yet.  In addition we’ve heard of the same problem for others from various organizations.

·         I (Joyce) am grateful to have a new computer (even though the new systems make for a big learning curve).  A belated Christmas gift arrived at just the right time that helped with the purchase—God’s timing.

·         Kathy (the Director’s wife) has now completed rounds of chemo but not without some serious side effects.  Do keep her in your prayers these days as she goes through more treatments.
